Discuss either theological doctrines, ideas about God, or Biblical criticism. I don't want any debates about creation vs evolution.

maybe we can make some money doing amusing philosophical parodies of children cartoons. Popeye says "I am what I am" and olive says "isn't that I think therefore I am?"

Actually, one thing I do find unusual is the fact that he is pretty explicit in his idea of universal salvation. Was this before the idea of eternal damnation was solidified in the Church. I know the East orthodox aren't big on the idea of an eternal hell but this guys literally Irish Catholic.
Another thing I noticed was that he views God defined to the extent that we can as "more than being."

Granted some of his views are a little wierd, he thought that man's perfect original state actually lacked gender.

I really should read him. Not for that but because his place in the history. I read some obscure people last summer in connection with the Being itself thing. John of Sisopolis. there was such a person. Maximus the confessor.
Miles check this out.
Here is a most wondrous book!
this is Cosmic Liturgy: the Universe According to Maximus the Confessor.

It's amazing. Read the first line of the into:
"When Studenmaiser as a young man recognized the theological task before him was to uproot the pantheism of Hegel and looked around for a model who would be not only enlightening but sufficiently grounded in history to be reliable, he came upon the figure of
Scotus Erigena"

That was pretty good. Though I thought Hegel was a panentheist. I remember him explicitely rejecting pantheism. Then again there are many interpretations for just about everyone.

People have different interpretations. That Catholic guy saw him as pantheist. Of cousre he would not accept Hegel as Christian and I do. I don't think of Spinoza as pantheist and some atheists have hooted and hollered and called me stupid for saying that I can quote the intro to the past master series where the says that. I think that is by Peter Singer but I could be wrong.

Ah peter Singer, some of his ideas legitimately creep the hell out of me.

Lol. The sad thing is is that if you take unrestrained classical utilitarianism, his conclusions internally make sense. Kind of disturbing in of itself.
