Re: What is hell?
My point was that a lot of Christians think there is a central message to the Bible, and therefore it is not "ridiculous" of me to ask you guys what you think it is. Px, I didn't mean to infer the question was "ridiculous of you to ask", just that, if there is an entity like "God," it's prima facie...

Re: Christians and Sabbath
Px, I just quoted to you what Jesus said in John and made favourable comparison to Paul (not to mention Slavoj Zizek) in terms of images used for the state of the Xian believer - "born again", "buried with Christ", "undead" - and suggested these are images of basically the same state, and one that w...

Re: What is hell?
Well, okay, I could offer you the same quote I gave you on the other thread ... So don’t be so surprised when I tell you that you have to be ‘born from above’—out of this world, so to speak. You know well enough how the wind blows this way and that. You hear it rustling through the trees, but you ha...

Re: Christians and Sabbath
Px, I'm trying to show you a consistent understanding of the nature of the Xian revelation between Paul and Christ, that's my point .... From John 3 (the Message paraphrase) So don’t be so surprised when I tell you that you have to be ‘born from above’—out of this world, so to speak. You know well e...

Re: Christians and Sabbath
i would guess Jesus is being hyperbolic here with regards to hating your parents, given he also said the second commandment is to love your neighbours. Jesus was saying that following him required an absolute commitment to him, and the follower had to be prepared forsake all ties to the family. How...

Re: Christians and Sabbath
Are you saying murder is okay if you can get away with it? I think that's a really interesting concept...why isn't it? i appreciate laws are broken all the time, but nevertheless they are supposed to be obeyed. When they were created, the people involved were demanding that the laws were obeyed (an...

Re: What is hell?
Px, we'd have to go thru them all and decide the extent to which each one was reducing the Gospel to "a deal, an economy, an exchange", as I said, before we could do that? But perhaps there's still a point there.... I wonder what those writers would think of the Rollins spin, based on Christ's P's 2...

Re: What is hell?
Yep, it's sure hard to convey to certain mindsets that the Gospel is not supposed to be reducible to a formula, an economy, an exchange, an arrangement, or a "deal with God" of any kind .... as ridiculous as such a concept is, in the first place, if one gives it but a moment's thought. I think the p...

Re: Christians and Sabbath
Of course not. You are saying it kind of is and kind of is not. It has to be obeyed, even though it does not. It would be great if you could state whether they have to be obeyed or not, but somehow I doubt you will. Many, perhaps most, things are like that, in reality ;) .... Check out the "woman c...
