Re: Oldest known Bible pieced together and posted online
http://www.geocities.com/trvalentine/orthodox/bible_texts.html The authentic Greek text of the Bible is preserved by the Orthodox Church. When translating the New Testament into English, there are many Greek manuscripts to choose from. To ask, What does the original Greek say? is to beg the question...

Re: Oldest known Bible pieced together and posted online
Here's the site they're talking about: http://www.codex-sinaiticus.net/en Unfortunately, as in most publications in Western Christianity, the Orthodox Church--the owner and keeper of the codex--is not mentioned anywhere on the site... not even once! It's just sad that people are undermining the role...

Re: sgttomas has his mind opened.
Just curious, sgtt. What's your stand on Turkish persecution of the Orthodox? Would you want to give Agia Sophia, one of our most-Holy Churches, back to us?

Re: THE GRAND ASSERTION
Note that a summary of these verses could be the following: While we were helpless ungodly sinners who were His enemies, Christ died for us, declared us righteous by his blood, will save us from God’s wrath, and reconciled us to God through His death. As much as I'd like to commend your post, I sim...

Re: If you cannot love an eternal torment god
I didn't mean to contend that I had a proof for the non-destructibility of souls. Just a way out of the corner you were walking into.....of course, it happens to lead into another corner, so....yeah. *shrugs* Unfortunately I can't resolve the issue, I can only keep it going :geek: It's a labyrinth,...

Re: If you cannot love an eternal torment god
So... My (again, hypothetically dual) soul also existed for all of timeless eternity prior to my conception? I guess from the perception of someone on the outside looking in (i.e. Creator), yes. From someone inside looking out (i.e. creature), no. Thought and perhaps consciousness itself may not be...

That's the sweet spot, sgtt!sgttomas wrote:Because the linearity of time is an illusion: per Einstein, if you want a source for that.Antimatter wrote:My (hypothetically dual) soul didn't exist for the billions of years prior to my conception, so why is it immune to oblivion after my death?

Re: If you cannot love an eternal torment god
God can do stuff we can't remember? So you believe that souls would go **poof** like magic? You also need to consider sgttomas' excellent point about the illusion of time's linearity. That is, God would have to eliminate the existence of souls throughout all space-time: past, present and future. th...

Re: If you cannot love an eternal torment god
The judgment is to cessation of existence not eternal conscious torment. I think the cessation of existence of souls is impossible. It’s a nice alternative to eternal torment, but you simply can't change something to nothing. Even in the material world, it is only an illusion that a thing ceases to...

Re: If you cannot love an eternal torment god
Prior to my conversion to Orthodoxy, I was a universalist in the mold of Origen. Today, after surveying the history that led to the condemnation of some of Origen's teachings regarding the matter, I have become a universalist only in the potential sense. That is, God has the capacity to forgive ever...
