I can't pick just one thing about this talk that I found interesting. The entire thing has generated very rich and important discussion in my family and friends. The last 50 minutes are specifically about his ideas of religious belief. His description of the multiple levels of action and meaning is, I think, probably the best way to describe what I mean by "real" religion in a secular age.

p.s. I'm no pining for the days of the wolves (Conservatives), but I knew I shouldn't be looking forward to the wolves in sheeps clothing (Liberals), and would probably miss many of the covert attacks of my religious values. Bill C-16 is satanic.

tiresome. I jumped ship on postmodernism a long time ago, I learned a few things from them but by no means joined their cult. Those guys are very shallow simplistic about Marxism they essentially red baiting,. his stuff on staving in the 30s has been disproved. The American Commander of Abs Lincoln brigade was an economist from Berkeley he toured USSR and fond no evidence of starving. But they a lot of evil in USSR but the Trotskyites never controlled a country so they never did evil The Sandinistas were good on human rights.

In the 80s i had endless discussions about that.,

What am I supposed to understand from your comments on postmodernism? How does it connect to the context in which it was used in the video??

In complete disagreement with Meta, I thought the random snips I played were, as you said, fascinating....will do the whole talk ASAP....

~*~*waves back~*~*

Had a great discussion with my dad after he listened to this talk. One takeaway: until a person can dig deep into themselves and extirpate that Nazi element, there is little to be had of peace within one's self, and therefore little to be had in the world.

...but that's really uncomfortable to do, and we have a plethora of excuses and distractions (~*~*coff - the NEWS - coff coff~*~*).

My wife took religious studies at the University of Alberta. She had one class that overlapped with the woman's studies program and she found it absolutely appalling. Everything that professor Petrerson said about the ideology, the character of such (charlatan) academics, and the tone and demeanor they infect in their students was confirmed in her experience. She took "Women in Religion" and could not even comprehend how such a biased view was being offered as an academic course. My wife is an EXTREMELY shy and reserved person, but she said this was the sole professor in her entire university experience that she decided to leave a negative feedback for in the end of semester review forms (the one's that the Univesity itself processes). Essentially she felt she was being forced to adopt the professor's POV and she had never experienced this from another professor. She cited numerous instances with herself and others in the class. And of course it was universally the case that muslim women were "oppressed" and that yes, there was some ancient female goddess cult society that exhibited the ideal expression of "woman".

She actually has told me that story before, years back. At the time I just though "well of course, what else do you expect". ....like it didn't even occur to me that indoctrination of students with a fantastical tale of bigotry was reprehensible, let alone that it should never be taught at a university! I'm really glad that professor Peterson brought to light that we move back inches at a time until we realize we are miles from where we started.

And that bill C-16 is satanic. I mean that literally. It exhibits the qualities of Satanism. Do as thou wilt, motherfcukers.

they started with a long tiresome thing about the evils of P/c and i don't care, I don't talk that way I think those people like to carry things to extremes and i just don't mess with it. I am no longer a commie but I don't agree with all the bashing of the USSR. Some things were propaganda,, but they did enough evil we don't need to add to it,b with folklore.

That PC stuff has recently been implemented into human rights and criminal legislation in Canada! They are making it illegal to NOT be PC. I didn't "care" either, until I realized that things are just going a step too far. At what point is it no longer acceptable to just turn away? I agree that usually there is no need to observe and comment/judge because it's just mental pollution. This is different....it's mainstream politics. It's law! It will soon become enshrined in the holy law of Canada that people with mental disorders need to have their feelings validated.

Maybe you're tired by it. Okay. You don't have to care. ...but that tiresome long thing was making a case that "I just don't mess with it" is precisely how we get to this point. One little uncomfortable step back at a time. As professor Peterson said in that podcast; at first the news coverage was along the lines of "why doesn't the mean professor just play nice"...but when people looked more deeply into the issue, the tone of the journalist's coverage changed. Why should I have to change the way I speak to validate someone's feelings? And how did it come to be that entire departments of universities across this whole bloody continent are teaching propaganda and blatantly false scientific claims as a "human right"?

In Canada, you will soon have a significantly restricted zone in which you are NOT permitted to "not care", because for the first time we have prescriptive language legislation. It will be illegal for you not to validate someone's feelings. And yeah, sure, it has to meet the legal threshold of "hate" speech...or, well, actually, just "prejudice" ....or, well...hmmm...damn....even "bias". What the fuck.
I am no longer a commie but I don't agree with all the bashing of the USSR. Some things were propaganda,, but they did enough evil we don't need to add to it,b with folklore.
Well you're claiming the holodomor is folklore because some guy in the 1980s said it didn't happen. I took a university course about Russia in the 20th century and that certainly wasn't how the topic was presented. So....stalemate?

What I'm really trying to get at is....why are you reacting so emotionally here? :? (why are you acting so certain in the face of uncertainty) <-- hallmark ideologically driven behavior...which was also a topic of the podcast.
