Re: Big problem with board--we need to talk
I hope we can keep this board. It's a good place for private discussions. There are Facebook alternatives-- you can have a private page with limited, invitation-only membership. If the board does go down permanently, that might be an option. But yeah, Joe is going to have to have a public Facebook p...

Re: resurrection and theological significance
Thanks, Metacrock. The issue here is the Resurrection. I have also posted on the Jesus-myth thread.

Re: why Jesus myth stuff is bullshit
Lots of use of loaded language by Michael Hill. If I don't agree with him it's because I'm too "lazy" to look up the evidence. Riiight. James McGrath makes a good point that atheists who insist on Jesus-as-myth are doing much the same thing as fundamentalist Christians who insist on young-earth Crea...

Re: resurrection and theological significance
Michael Hill, I thought this was a discussion about the historicity of the Resurrection. The whole "Jesus was a mythical character" thing goes way past that, into denial of historical consensus. Here is a synopsis of the evidence by a non-Christian: http://armariummagnus.blogspot.com.au/2014/01/did-...

Metacrock, I'm not sure that second link is the one you meant to post.

*waves at Michael Hill*
I made a point which you ignored and posted to Metacrock as though I were invisible. Please answer my point and show where it says in the texts that Jesus told people to keep the resurrection a secret. You won't find it because it's not there.

Re: resurrection and theological significance
I was thinking about this some more. What if Jesus had appeared not just to those who already believed in him (and there were many more disciples besides the 11, so why couldn't he have appeared to 500 at once? Scholars believe that what Paul quotes there is from the very earliest oral tradition, be...

Re: resurrection and theological significance
Nowhere in the Bible does it say Jesus told anyone to keep the Resurrection a secret. After some of his healings, yes-- presumably (based on the context) because the resulting crowds would make it almost impossible for him to move around for days afterwards. But after the Resurrection, the message i...

Re: The Wellness Syndrome
I'm glad you posted it. Because if anyone has a right to speak up against this "it's your fault if you're not healthy" nonsense, it's Metacrock. Privilege needs to be addressed by those who don't share it-- in this case, those with chronic conditions.
